Similar to Twitch, YouTube has introduced its own collection of emoticons known as “YouTube Emotes“. When words aren’t enough, the company claims that “YouTube Emotes” lets people express themselves through captivating photos on stream and in the comments.

To use YouTube Emotes, click the icon in the comments or live chat. YouTube expressions will appear below any channel subscription custom emoji in this presentation of all accessible expressions and emoji.

Similar to how custom emoji now work for channel subscriptions (for example, typing “smile:” will autocomplete the smiling emoji), YouTube emoji can be added to live chat using special names. To try it out while watching a broadcast, enter the name of the YouTube Emote in chat.

We’re starting with emotes built for gaming, but we plan to provide many more emote themes in the future, so stay tuned for more emotes from the community! YouTube gave this information through a blog post.
